Cheviot PoliceThe Cheviot Police Department is starting a program to help keep residents better informed of what's happening in their neighborhood. Cheviot Police Chief David Voss said the program is called Crime Alert, and it's an e-mail based notification system.

When particular incidents are occurring in a neighborhood a Crime Alert e-mail will be sent out to those who subscribe informing the residents of what is happening, particularly if the police department is looking for a certain person or vehicle, and how the residents can protect themselves. The system will also accept incoming e-mails to the police department, allowing residents to send in information about incidents they feel need police attention or tips to help the police on cases they may be investigating.

Residents interested in receiving Crime Alert e-mails should subscribe here and choose "Subscribe to Crime Alert" as the subject. Residents are asked to include their home address in the e-mail to ensure they receive the proper notifications for their neighborhood.

A Crime Alert e-mail will only be sent out when specific events that the public should be aware of are occurring. There may be extended breaks between alerts if there are no incidents to report. All subscribers' e-mail addresses will be kept confidential and used only for the Crime Alert program.

Anyone who has questions can send an e-mail to the police department, or call 661-2917 to speak with Chief Voss or Sgt. Ed Taylor.

Also, a crime deterrent program was done in March by the Cincinnati Police Department and is now being endorsed by the Cheviot Police Department. It's called Theft From Autos. Download the informational brochure here (requires Adobe Reader) and see how you can avoid becoming a victim of a crime.
