The Cheviot Police Department now has a K-9 unit within the department. Thanks to donations and matching dollars from the National Association of Chiefs of Police, the department is able to fund the program. Officer Jeff Patton is pictured above accepting one such donation from the Matt Haverkamp Foundation. As of 11/13/08, $28,000.00 has been raised.

Full-Time: A Civil Service test to create an eligibility list for the position of full-time patrol officer was administered on February 5th, 2005. This list is in effect for a minimun period of one year. The Civil Service Commission reserves the right to extend this list until February 5, 2007.

The Cheviot Police Department — manned by ten full-time and twelve part-time officers — is equipped to handle just about any emergency or crime occurring within the city's borders. The department's structure is made up of six full-time and twelve part-time patrolmen, three sergeants and the chief of police.

The Cheviot Police have set up a hotline for citizens to report suspected drug or crime activity in their neighborhood. The number to call is 607-3161 and you will remain anonymous.






Cheviot Police Law Enforcement Explorer Program

The Cheviot Police Department offers a program for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 19 years to participate in the Law Enforcement Explorer Program. The program offers training in patrol and investigative procedures that are used by Police Officers and the Explorers may participate in a ride-along program. In addition, the Police Explorers assist the members of the Cheviot Police Department with various Community Programs, including parade details, the Westside Streetfest, the Harvest Home Fair and other Crime Prevention events.

Each spring, the Police Explorers participate in the area Law Enforcement Explorer Competition and compete in police scenarios with other area Police Explorer Posts.

Regular meeting and training dates are on the first and third Wednesdays of each month.
