OHIO’S “SAVE THE DREAM“ FORECLOSURE PREVENTION PROGRAM
LEGAL
ASSISTANCE INITIATIVE
Recognizing that many homeowners threatened with foreclosure
cannot afford an attorney, this new statewide initiative matches eligible
low-income homeowners with legal aid lawyers and pro bono attorneys.
Basic income eligibility is
250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, which is about $53,000 annually
for a family of four.
This Legal Assistance
Initiative is limited to foreclosure cases that have been filed on “owner
occupied” homes.
In addition to income eligibility, homeowners also must
demonstrate sufficient income is available to sustain payments based on a new
loan workout.
Qualified homeowners are
referred directly to the local legal aid program servicing the county in which
the home is located to be matched with a pro bono or legal aid attorney.
To participate, homeowners
call the SAVE THE DREAM hotline (888) 404-4674,
Operated jointly by the
Attorney General and the Department of Commerce staff to determine if they meet
income and other eligibility requirements.
